3-day seminar on ‘Literature and ethics’ begins at KU

SRINAGAR, Mar 18: To promote a meaningful discussion on the value and ethics of contemporary literature,  a 3-day National Seminar on ‘Literature and ethics: Paradigms and practice’ started today  at University of Kashmir.
While inaugurating the seminar Vice Chancellor, KU, Prof Talat Ahmad hoped that the seminar would provide an opportunity to various students, scholars and teachers of English Literature to learn from the rich experiences of the delegates.
In his keynote address, Prof Harish Narang, a noted academician who is a former Professor of English at JNU and is presently a senior consultant with South Asia University, said literature is a part of cultural achievements of a society and both get affected by each other. “Culture and literature are interlinked; literature is an outcome of its culture. It is of the society, for the society and by the society,” Prof Narang said.
Speaking about the freedom of expression, Prof Narang maintained  that a writer’s freedom is not absolute. “Every piece of literature is propaganda and is always written with some intension. However the freedom that a writer enjoys should and is not absolute. It has certain limitations and those limitations need to be respected, ” he said.
Head Department of English and Seminar Director Prof Lily Want informed that the Department is going to start a 9-Month Post Graduate Diploma in Spoken English from this academic session.
During the first day of the workshop six papers were presented by different distinguished academics and scholars.
