3 bridges in Bufliaz area may collapse due to illegal mining

POONCH, Aug 9: Three bridges on Bufliaz river including a vital bridge on Mughal road near Bufliaz may collapse any time if illegal mining around the bridges is not stopped immediately.
Chairman Block Development Council Buflliaz Shafiq Mir has flashed a letter in this connection to Deputy Commissioner Poonch today seeking his intervention in the matter.
In his letter addressed to Deputy Commissioner Poonch, vide his No BDC/B/22 dated 9-8-2022 Mir has written that despite his repeated requests the authorities have not taken any action in this regard which suggests that this all the illegal business of mining mafia was running with the will and consent of the law enforcing authorities.
Letter reads that not only bridges, there was a grave threat to the local human population because the land around the river may sink and it may lead to landslides in the area . Giving details, the chairperson said in his letter, three bridges on Bufliaz river may collapse any time if mining work continues near these bridges. These bridges have been identified as Faizalabad bridge, Bufliaz bridge on Mughal Road and Chandimarh-Manehi bridge.
Shafiq Mir when contacted confirmed that he had written such a letter to Deputy Commissioner Poonch saying that he had many times raised this issue in the past but no action was ever taken against the mining mafia. “But now, the situation seems grave because I have personally observed the deep digging near these three bridges and it may lead to their collapse if steps are not taken immediately. Not only this, I also concerned about the future safety of the human population residing near this river because this unchecked mining may lead to sinking of the land in the area and it may lead to landslides in the area”, he added.
