28 kg charas seized, 2 arrested

SAMBA, Apr 12: Samba Police and SOG Jammu in a joint operation today seized 28 kgs of charas valuing lakhs of rupees in international market at Nud Mansar Morh and arrested two smugglers in this regard.
The police said that the Charas was being smuggled from Kashmir valley to outside State. It said after receiving the information a joint team of Samba Police led by SHO PS Samba under the supervision of DySP concerned laid a naka at Nud Mansar Morh. During the naka it detained the truck which was coming from Kashmir valley and on checking recovered charas from it.
The joint operation was launched on the directives of SSP Samba Anil Magotra and SP SOG, Jammu Vinay Sharma. Police said, adding  the contraband was carried in the truck bearing registration number JK 226863 which was on way from Srinagar to Delhi and the contraband was to be supplied there.
However Samba Police and SOG Jammu acted timely to frustrate their designs. The arrested smugglers included driver of the truck Junaid Ahmed S/o Ghulam Mohammed of Trainz Shopian and Ashfaq Ahmed Lone S/o Nazir Ahmed Lone of Heerpora Shopian.
The Samba Police has registered a case under relevant Sections of law and also seized the truck.
It may be recalled that the Samba Police has launched a drive over last one month against the drug trafficking, bovine smuggling etc in the district and a large number of bovine animals were rescued besides drugs including a large quantity of charas was recovered at various nakas.
Earlier 37 kgs of Charas was also seized by Samba Police and SOG Jammu in a joint operation which was being smuggled from Kashmir valley to Delhi.
