KATHUA, Dec 5: Contin-uing with its drive against smugglers, a team of the officials of Excise Department Lakhanpur under the supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner Toll Post Lakhanpur detected 240 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) being carried outside the State in a vehicle bearing Registration Number , JK02AL-3833.
According to a spokesman of the Excise Department the vehicle was on its way from Jammu to Punjab and during the course of physical checking, it was found to be carrying 240 kgs of Bhukki. The vehicle along with contraband item and the person accompanying the vehicle namely Iqbal Hussain S/o Manzoor Ahmed R/o Seri Chowan Poonch were handed over to the Police authorities, Lakhanpur.
The whole operation was conducted by the team of Excise Department comprising Excise & Taxation Officer, G.L. Sharma and Inspector Anil Kumar and Sub-Inspectors, Rishav Seth and Rajan Vikrant and Excise Guards Barket Ali and Rajinder Singh. The Deputy Excise Commi-ssioner has appreciated the efforts of the staff at Toll Post Lakhanpur and warned the smugglers / evaders to desist from such activities.
