23rd Nirwan Diwas of Pt Prem Nath Shastri observed with fervor, gaiety

ANANTNAG, Aug 13: The 23rd Nirwan Diwas (death anniversary) of Pt Prem Nath Shastri doyen of Kashmiri Pandit culture and a veteran scholar of Shastras was observed with fervor and gaiety today. In this connection a grand function was held at Tirath Raj Mattan near here. The function was organised by Pt Prem Nath Shastri Sanslkritik Shodh Sansthan led by Pt Omkar Nath Shastri, Sampadak of Vijeshwar Panchang .
A large number of Kashmir Pandits drawn from different parts of J&K participated in the function and paid glowing tributes to the late Shastri Ji and highlighted his contributions in enriching the KP culture. They said Shastri Ji was a great scholar and authority on Shastras. They recalled his role in guiding the community after the mass exodus of 1989 and 1990 and said that he openly advocated for various social reforms in the community as per changing times and new challenges put before the community after its mass exodus.
The function was presided over by Pt Omkar Nath Shastri, chairman Shodh Sansthan while Ashok Sidha president Tirath Raj Mattan was chief guest. The function was also attended by Pt Bushan Lal Shastri , Dr Ramesh Bhat president Tral -Awantipora Prabandak Committee and many other dignitaries and members of Thajiwara Devasthan Prabandhak Committee, Bijbehara.
On the occasion a Maha Yagya was also held which started yesterday evening. It concluded with Puran Ahuti this afternoon followed by Kalash Yatra. The devotees were served with Prashad after Puran Ahuti. A day long Bhajan Kirtan was also held by the devotees.
Speaking on the occasion Pt Omkar Nath Shastri said that the Shodh Sansthan will be revived soon and Snasthan will also establish a research centre in J&K.
