Srinagar, June 17: State Government today said 2394 persons under different categories are lodged in 14 jails of Jammu and Kashmir upto May 22, 2016.
In a written reply to a question of Naresh Kumar Gupta in Upper House, Minister Incharge Home said there are 14 jails in the State, out of which 9 are in Jammu, 4 in Kashmir and one in Leh. The total strength of these jails is of 3015 inmates.
According to official figures, 378 inmates are lodged at Central Jail Jammu, 365 at Central Jail Srinagar, 462 at District Jail Jammu, 266 at District Jail Udhampur, 102 at District Jail Kathua, 112 at District Jail Rajouri, 82 at District Jail Poonch, 76 at District Jail Kishtwar, 132 at District Jail Baramulla, 187 at District Jail Anantnag, 78 at District Jail Kupwara, 29 at District Jail Leh, 86 at District Jail Hiranagar and 39 at District Jail Reasi.
