20 girls from Akhnoor leave for ‘Sadhbhavana’ tour

AKHNOOR, Sept 20: An educational tour under ‘Operation Sadhbhavana’, covering  the cities of Chandigarh, Delhi and Agra for 20 school girls and two teachers from border areas of Akhnoor was flagged by General Officer Commanding, Crossed Swords Division today.
The aim of the tour is to make the border area school girls aware of the rich heritage and cultural grandeur of the country and to make them understand the secular nature of our great nation.  Suman Sharma, School teacher of Government Higher Secondary School, Dhakar, said on the occasion of “This educational tour for the girls from our border areas will surely enlighten them on the growth and development in various other parts of our country and make them aware of the opportunities that await them tomorrow.”
During the flagging off ceremony, the Commander of Kalidhar Brigade, during interaction with the children, impressed upon the important role that the children of today have to play towards nation building. Shivani Devi, a student of 10th class, expressed her happiness over the fact that this tour will not only offer them an opportunity to visit various places in North India which they had seen on TV or magazine, but also provide them a life time opportunity of meeting the President of India.
The tour is scheduled for a duration of 10 days and will return to Akhnoor on Sept 29, 2014. During the tour, the girls will meet various eminent personalities and visit places of historical and cultural importance at Chandigarh, Delhi and Agra to include Rose Garden, Punjab University, Chatbir Zoo, Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate, Red Fort, Air Force Museum and Taj Mahal.
