2 women among 4 arrested with cannabis, intoxicant tablets

*SPO dismissed for indulging in drugs trade

KISHTWAR, Dec 21: In its drive against the narcotics smuggler, police arrested four persons including women with huge quantity of drugs. Police has also booked a Special Police Officer (SPO) for indulging in drug peddling and has dismissed him from the services in the Police Department.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary while interacting with media persons here today.
SSP said that during police patrolling in Om Mehta Road area, a police party headed by SHO Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jillani intercepted two women, who were moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police recovered 1.800 kilograms of cannabis from the possession of the women and arrested them.
The arrested women have been identified as Gulshana Begum, wife of Mohammad Yaseen Reshi and Zahida Begum, wife of Mohammad Iqbal Reshi, both residents of Dellar, tehsil Chathroo, SSP said, adding that a case under FIR Number 268/17 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Kishtwar Police Station and investigation started.
SSP further stated that on specific information, a raid was conducted in the shop of Manoj Kumar alias Baba, son of Rikhi Raj of Nagni, Kishtwar and during the search, police recovered 24 strips of intoxicant tablets from the shop. Police arrested the shopkeeper and a case under FIR Number 267/17 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered against him in Police Station Kishtwar and further investigation into the case is going on.
He informed that Manoj alias Baba had a huge network of drug abusers with him as customers. “Police was after him since last couple of months but due to his cleverness he used to get escaped”, SSP said, adding that the police has also identified the medical shop from which he used to get supplies of banned drugs and has recommended for the cancellation of the licence of the shop and an action in this regard is expected anytime.
In yet another raid, on specific information, police laid a special naka in Bonsthan area and intercepted a person identified as Amit Singh, son of Mastan Singh of Dool, Kishtwar, who is also a Special Police Officer (SPO) in the Police Department.
On his personal search, police recovered 300 grams of cannabis from his possession and arrested him, SSP said, adding that a case under FIR Number 269/17 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered against him at Police Station Kishtwar.
SSP Abrar Chowdhary informed that the SPO involved and arrested in the NDPS Act case has been dismissed from service.
He further informed that the drug peddlers have changed their modus operandi and are now using their women accomplices to transport and deliver the drug consignments. As a result of this only two women drug peddlers have been arrested in the raids conducted today, he added.
He asserted that war against drugs by Kishtwar police will continue till the menace is eradicated from the district completely.
