2 suspended in rice black-marketing

SRINAGAR, June 2: After police seized two trucks of illicit rice in North Kashmir, the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department (FCS&CA) Kashmir today suspended two officials pending the inquiry.
Both the officials have been suspended for their involvement in the matter.
The two suspended officials are Mohammad Afzal (TSO FCI Kralhar Baramulla) and Gulzar Ahmad Wani who is Store-Keeper at Kulangam Granary Kupwara.
As per the order issued in this regard by the department: “Pending enquiry into the matter, the two officials are hereby placed under suspension and during the course of time they shall remain attached with the Director Office.”
Also, Assistant Director FCS&CA Kupwara, Assistant Director FCS&CA Baramulla, Tehsil Supply Officer Pattan Circle, Baramulla and Tehsil Supply Officer Tarathpora Circle, Kupwara have been directed to hold the inquiry into the matter.
The Committee formed has been asked to submit its report-cum-findings along with recommendations within 4 days.
Pertinently, police in North Kashmir had seized 366 bags of rice in 2 trucks at Pattan, following which the truck drivers were arrested and an investigation was started.
The rice seized was loaded from FCI Godown Kralhar in Baramulla and was meant to be transported to Kulangam Kupwara. However, the trucks were on their way to Srinagar for black marketing of the rice, prompting the police to act.
