2 soldiers injured in Macchil

Srinagar, May 12: Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed in a gun battle at Hind Sitapora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
A joint team of security forces including Army’s 34 RR and Special Operations Group (SOG) Shopian cordoned off Sitapora after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.
As the joint team of security forces intensified searches, the hiding militants fired upon troops, triggering an encounter. Two militants were killed in exchange of fire between militants and security forces.

The two bodies were later retrieved and they have been identified as police man turned militant Tariq Ahmad from Khasipora Shopian, and Basharat Ahmad Shah from Nikloora, Pulwama.
Tariq Ahmad Bhat (belt No 1151) son of Mohammad Abdullah Bhat, resident of Khasipora Shopian was a police constable posted at police post Pakherpora Budgam. He went missing along with AK 47 rifle on April 25 last year. Later, he joined militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.
According to the police records, both the militants were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of militancy related crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian. Several cases were registered against them.
Javid had a long history of militancy and series of cases were registered against him for planning and executing attacks in the area. He was also responsible for recruiting youth from adjoining areas of Kulgam to join militancy.
Similarly, Adil Bashir was also involved in several attacks and many cases were registered against him.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other cases.
“Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials, if any”, a police spokesman said.
And two soldiers were injured in an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) blast in Macchil sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on last night.
A senior Army officer said that two Army personnel sustained injuries in the blast near Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector.
The injured soldiers have been identified as Havaldar Jaipal Singh Tomar, 39 and Naik Vikram Mane, 33, of 56 RR.
He said that the UBGL went off when the personnel were cleaning arms and ammunition at their post. He said that both the injured were taken to 168 Military Hospital Drugmulla from where they have been shifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital at Badamibagh Cantonment in Srinagar.
