SRINAGAR, May 4: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in an encounter in Kreeei area of Baramulla district today.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said here that both the militants were affiliated with Lashkar e Toiba and had joined the militant ranks in the month of March this year.

Kumar, while terming the operation as a big success, said that the neutralized militants were planning to carry out the attacks on security forces. He also congratulated the security forces for carrying out the operation in a professional manner and without any collateral damage.
Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amod Nagpure told reporters that on the basis of a special intelligence, a joint cordon and search operation by Army’s 29 Rashtriya Rifles, SSB and Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched at Wanigam Payeen of sub-division Kreeri in Baramulla.
Amod said soon after the joint party reached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate firing at them which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter.
In the ensuing gunfight, two local militants, identified as Shakir Majid Najar and Hanan Ahmed Seh – both from Southern Shopian district were killed, he said. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including one AK 47 rifle and one pistol were recovered from the gunfight site.
A case in this regard has been registered and further investigations have been taken up.
Meanwhile, militants this evening fired upon security forces at Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.
A police official said that militants fired some rounds towards naka party in Bijbehara.
In this incident, one cop identified as Mohammad Ramzan received minor injuries. He has been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Soon after the attack, the whole area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
In Pulwama, police and Railway Police today recovered a grenade from a person identified as Sairul Nisar son of Nisar Ahmad of Poshwan Charsoo in Awantipora when he was about to board a train at Awantipora Railway Station. He is being questioned.
