5 OGWs of LeT arrested in Budgam

SRINAGAR, June 25: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter in Hardshiva area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today while three militants were trapped in South Kashmir’s Tral area and five Over Ground Workers of LeT were arrested in Budgam district.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that a joint operation was launched by Sopore Police, 22 RR of Army and CRPF in village Reshipora of Hardu Shiva area, after police received a credible information regarding presence of militants in the area.

He said that during the searches hiding militants fired upon the security forces which was retaliated leading to an encounter in which two militants were killed.
Kumar said that incriminating materials including two AK rifles, four magazines, 49 rounds of ammunition, two pouches, one knife and one cutter were recovered from the encounter site.
A case (FIR No. 48/2020 U/S 307 IPC, 7/27 A. Act, 16, 23 ULA (P) Act) has been registered in Police Station Bomia and investigation taken up.
The militants have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Parray son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray of Yamarzawari and Waleed Bashir Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir of Sheikh Mohalla, Behrampora in Rafiabad. Parray who was doing Masters in History had joined militancy in March this year and was allegedly involved in the killing of an SPO.
Mobile Internet services were suspended in Sopore as precautionary measures to prevent any violence.
And another operation was launched in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today in which three militants of Hizbul Mujahideen have been trapped.
The IGP said that an operation was launched in Chewa Ullar area of Tral after police received reports about presence of 2-3 militants. He said that the operation was launched during which militants fired at the troops leading to a gun battle.
The encounter is on and the cordon around the area has been tightened to prevent militants from fleeing the village.
And today five Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of LeT were arrested in Budgam district of Central Kashmir.
The IGP said that acting on a specific input Budgam police and Army’s 2 RR arrested five militant associates from Narbal area during a search operation.
He identified them as Imran Rashid of Kurhama Budgam, Ifshan Ahmad Ganie of Check Kawoosa, Owais Ahmad of Kawoosa Khalisa, Mohsin Qadir of Kurhama  and Abid Rather of Archanderhama Magam.
Police have recovered 28 rounds of ammunition and one magazine of AK-47 and 20 posters of LeT from their possession. This group was involved in providing logistic support and shelter to active militants of LeT.
He said that they were active in the area for last few months. A case (FIR no 101/2020 under relevant sections of UAPA) has been registered in Police Station Magam and investigation taken up.
