KUPWARA, Nov 5: In a bid to eliminate the “man eater” leopards in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Wildlife officials today killed a leopard in a village in Handwara town.
Wildlife authorities said it was an achievement for killing another “man eater” leopard at Cheki-Sadal of Handwara town in a month as it had mauled three minor boys to death after attacking them in Sadal, Khahipora and Sheikhpora villages of Magam Handwara.
The Wildlife officials said the three boys Hanan Manzoor, 10, of Sadal, Mehraj- ud- din Bhat, 12, of Khahipora and Faheem Ahmad, 10, of Sheikh Mohalla, Magam fell prey to the man eater leapord.
Last month, the Wildlife team of North Division Sopore killed first ‘man eater’ in village Pazalpora-Handwara after it attacked a man and mauled him to death.
Wildlife Warden North- Kashmir (Sopore) stated that the Wildlife field staffs with field functionaries of Forest Department and Forest Protection Force (Langate, Kupwara and Kehmil) are searching other wild animals responsible for killings in other areas of Kupwara and Handwara to avoid further incidents of man animal conflict.
Meanwhile, local people of Loswani in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district today eliminated a leopard after it appeared in the Karewas of village.
The villagers said the leopard appeared very close to some residential houses of the village, after people chased him and knocked him to death.
