SRINAGAR, May 24: Police today apprehended two drug peddlers as it intensified anti-drug operations across Kashmir through awareness programmes, raids and recoveries as part of ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.”
A spokesperson said that in Bijbehara, police registered two NDPS cases and recovered around 3.265 kilograms of charas powder-like contraband. During naka checking at Rakh Nowbug, police apprehended Umar Rasheed Ganie of Nowbug Bijbehara with 295 grams of charas powder-like substance. In another operation, police recovered around 2.970 kilograms of charas powder-like substance from the residence of Bashir Ahmad Dar of Natipora. Cases have been registered and investigation has been taken up.
In another action, the spokesperson said, two repeat drug peddlers identified as Feroz Ahmad Bhat of Akingam Achabal and Mohammad Ashraf Dar of Tulkhan Bijbehara were booked under the PIT NDPS Act and lodged in District Jails Rajouri and Poonch respectively.
Police also conducted raids at Beighpora, Chersoo, Kawani, Rajpora and Sail areas of Awantipora to check drug-related activities. “Wild cannabis cultivation spread over around one kanal of state land at Saderbal Palhalan was also destroyed,” the spokesperson said
