POONCH, May 4: The police arrested two drug-peddlers and recovered nearly 6 kg of heroin from their possession in Poonch area today.
Official sources said that police party headed by Inspr Ranjeet Singh Rao, SHO Poonch, during naka on the road in Nangali Sahib area during the mid day noticed two persons sitting under a Chinar tree near Drungli bridge. After seeing police they tried to flee. The police party chased them and apprehended.
They were identified Mohd Mashook, son of Mohd Yousef, resident of Pothi Noorkote and Mohd Maroof, son of Wali Mohd , resident of Noorkote. During their search, it was found that Mohd Mashook was carrying a red coloured bag from which two packets of heroin, weighing about 2 kg were recovered. Both the persons were sitting there with common and criminal intention to deliver the said consignment.
In this context a Case FIR NO 54/2023 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Poonch and investigation was taken up.
Further on the disclosure of Mohd Mashook, 3 more packets of heroin were recovered from ward No 1 Panchayat Ghar Mohalla, Degwar Maldyalan in the presence of Magistrate which were concealed by him beneath the stones.
On the disclosure of Mohd Maroof, one packet of heroin was recovered in presence of Magistrate from Ward No. 1 Panchayat Ghar Mohalla Degwar, which was concealed by him in bushes. A total 6 packets of heroin, weighing 6 kg were recovered from their possession which have been seized on the spot and the said persons have been arrested in the instant case. The Army also assisted police team during operation. Further, investigation is going on and more recoveries and arrests can’t be ruled out, the police said.
