Srinagar, July 4: After hectic efforts, police and rescuers today fished out bodies of two persons who went missing last evening after their boat capsized in Nageen lake due to windstorm while as over 50 houses were damaged in Central Kashmir.
Police said that bodies of two persons, who went missing after their boat capsized in Nigeen lake last evening in windstorm, were recovered today.
Police said a boat carrying four persons capsized after it was caught in windstorm in the lake. They said that four persons on board had gone to attend a marriage in a small boat which capsized. Two among the four managed to swim back, while two others went missing.
The bodies of the duo were retrieved today from the lake after hectic efforts by police and rescuers. The deceased have been identified as Sajad Ahmed Ghat, 24, son of Mohammad Yousuf of Hafizbagh Mallabagh and Umar Ahmad, 27, son of Mohammad Sultan Lolepuri of Housing Colony Illahibagh, Srinagar.
And at least 50 residential houses were partially damaged while a residential house fully damaged in Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district due to the windstorm last evening. However, there was no loss of life or injury during the incident.
The windstorm had also wrecked havoc in other areas of Srinagar including Harwan, Shalimar and Kashmir University. Several vehicles parked in the premises of varsity got damaged after trees got uprooted due to the windstorm.
One residential house was partially damaged while the embankment of Chandriyad Nallah got damaged in Naristan area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district due to the cloud burst last evening. The embankment of various streams and the crops were damaged in the area due to the cloud burst. The electricity as well as the drinking water supply got also affected due to the cloud burst.
People of the area demanded that the embankments of Chandriyad Nallah should be repaired at an earliest.
And even as the intermittent rains continue to lash Valley, the Meteorological department today said that the flood threat that loomed over Kashmir is over now.
Director Meteorological (MeT) department, Sonum Lotus said that there was no flood threat in Kashmir as the weather has improved now. “There is significant improvement in the weather conditions today as compared to yesterday. There is possibility of further improvement in the weather conditions from Thursday,” he said, adding that there may be light rains at some places but overall the weather would start improving from Thursday morning.
