2-day awareness campaign for PRs organised

UDHAMPUR, June 16: As part of the Government’s endeavours to make Panchayats as vibrant local self Government units, the district administration today started a sustained campaign to educate the Panchayat Representatives (PRs) about the powers and functioning of Panchayati Raj institutions (PRIs) by holding awareness camps.
In this connection, the administration held a two day awareness camp where in the Panchs and Sarpanchs of the district were provided an in-depth overview of the powers conferred on them with regard to the supervision of fourteen departments, besides their role in the formulation of development plan and its implementation in their respective halqas.
During the two day camp the resource persons and administrative experts educated the Panchayat representatives about working of the departments, various levels of plan formulation and aims, objectives and benefits of various schemes launched for the socio-economic development of the rural populace. The PRs were also told that how they can play a vital role in spreading awareness about various vital services being offered by the government through its flagship schemes like National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
The two day camp was personally supervised by the District Development Commissioner, Yasha Mudgal. The DDC also had detailed interaction with the Panchayat representatives and informed them that the district administration would hold more such camps at block levels to benefit the PRs in particular and the rural masses in general.
