190 kgs of Poppy Husk seized at Lakhanpur

KATHUA, Aug 12: The Excise Department along with Police foiled an attempt of smuggling out Bhukki from the State at Lakhanpur today, when they seized a consignment of Poppy Husk in a vehicle bearing Registration No.PB05R-9397.
Police said the vehicle was loaded with fresh fruit as goods. The seized consignment is another catch of contraband item at Toll Post Lakhanpur weighing approximately 190 kgs. The vehicle along with fresh fruit boxes and contraband item (Bhukki) has been seized by the Police Station, Lakhanpur for further investigation under the NDPS Act.
The whole operation was conducted by the joint team consisting of Excise Inspectors Amit Sharma and Ritesh Gupta, Excise Sub-Inspectors, Surinder Bagal, Kanwaljeet Shan and Excise Guards, Javed Iqbal and Rajesh Kumar along with SHO Police Station, Lakhanpur Sushil Sharma under the direct supervision of Ranjit Singh, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur and Shridhar Patil, SSP Kathua.
It may be recalled that Excise Department and Police have recently foiled some major smuggling attempts by apprehending four consignments of poppy straw weighing 2800kg approximately, and one consignment of 15600 bottles of Codeine Phosphate & Triprolidine Hydrochloride Syrup and18 bovines were also rescued in last 15 days.
In this regard, a case FIR u/s 8/15 of NDPS stands registered in P/S Lakhanpur and the investigation is going on.
