POONCH, Apr 24: Just after second day of opening Mughal Road, the police seized 170 bovine animals and arrested four smugglers from Chhatta Pani area under Surankote police jurisdiction last night.
A police spokesman said that on the basis of specific information, a Surankote Police party led by SHO Charanjeet Singh, assisted by ASI Nazakat Hussain from Behram Galla Police Post, under the supervision of SDPO Surankote Riaz Tantray and SSP Poonch, JS Johar organised nakkas at Poshan and Chhatta Pani area on Mughal Road and seized total 170 bovine animals and nabbed four persons. Some of them managed to escape on seeing police.
Those arrested were identified as Abdul Rehman, son of Sultan Mohd; Mohd Bashir, son of Abdul Sattar, both residents of Bhooni Khet in Surankote; Farid Ahmed, son of Mohd Shabir of Seri Khawaja and Mohd Rashid, son of Mir Mohd of Sangla in Surankote.
They were using short cut hilly route to escape police nakka when caught by police party . The Mughal road was opened hardly yesterday and they managed to smuggle these animals to Kashmir valley via Mughal Road evading police nakkas. A case has been registered against them.
