MENDHAR, Feb 11: At least sixteen children were injured as a vehicle carrying a private school picnic party over turned on the road in Mankote area this evening.
The police reports said that mishap took place at around 5.30 pm when a seven seater Eco passenger vehicle, carrying 18 children was returning from Sagra to Mendhar. The school authorities had hired three Eco vehicle and a Canter for the picnic. The driver lost control over the vehicle near Mankote and it over turned on the road.
The other vehicles also stopped and the injured were rushed to nearby Health Centre at Mankote where some of the children were provided first aid. The police party from Mendhar led by SHO Dalip Singh also reached there.
Three seriously injured children were later removed to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar. They were identified as Shagufta Zabar (12), daughter of Zabbar Ahmed, resident of Mendhar; Sabia Hameed (12), daughter of Abdul Hameed, resident of Sakhi Maidan and Habib-ul- Rehman (7), son of Mohd Aslam from Mendhar. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot.
