Over 1507 kanals of evacuee land retrieved since 2008: Govt

Srinagar, June 11: Government today revealed that it had retrieved over 1507 kanals of evacuee land along with houses from the illegal occupants since 2008.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Hakim Mohammad Yasin in Lower House, Minister Incharge Revenue stated that the Evacuee Property Department has retrieved evacuee land measuring 1507 kanals and 16 marlas along with houses from the illegal occupants since 2008.
The Minister stated that evacuee land measuring 176 kanals and 10 ½ marlas has been allotted by the department in favour of various individuals/ Education Department since 2008. “An amount of Rs. 2975.46 lakhs has been charged as premium in respect of the evacuee land (old houses), out of which an amount of Rs. 2559.86 lakhs has been realized,” the Minister said.
Out of total 115 flats, 59 flats have been allotted since 2008 in which 30 flats situated at Meen Sarkar Jammu have been allotted to the Estates Department on monthly rent of Rs. 4585 per flat and 29 flats have been allotted to various individuals against monthly rent on short term basis, the Minster said.
The remaining 56 flats constructed on self finance basis are yet to be allotted formally in favour of prospective allottees and the formal allotment is under process, he said.
“An amount of Rs. 0.81 lacs as monthly rent has been realized in respect of (55) flats only, while as rent in respect of 60 flats constructed on self finance basis is yet to be fixed. No allottee is defaulter except the Estates Department which is liable to pay an amount of Rs.137550 (one lakh thirty seven thousand five hundred and fifty) per month in respect of flats allotted,” the Minister stated.
