15 Sumos seized for overcharging

POONCH, Nov 5: Taking serious note of the public complaints, Mendhar police today seized 15 Tata Sumos for over-charging from passengers and recommended cancellation of their permit to the Transport authorities.
Official sources said that people of Mendhar area were constantly complaining that Tata Sumo drivers were over-charging from passengers on different routes. And even for Jammu from Mendhar town, they were charging Rs 1000 per passenger, whereas the fare from Mendhar to Jammu is Rs 450. Even on the local routes, they were charging three to four times higher, they alleged.
On the basis of complaints, SHO Mendhar, Manzoor Kohli today seized 15 vehicles. The police is also recommending cancellation of the permit of these vehicles to the RTO concerned. The locals of the area have widely appreciated the police action. They said even the Traffic Police authorities were also informed about the issue but no action was taken by them in this regard.
They said the RTO/ Traffic police authorities should jointly work out and fix the fare on different routes in entire Poonch district.
