13 shops gutted in fire

Srinagar, Oct 11: At least 13 shops were gutted in a fire incident at Qamarwari market in summer capital here last evening.
A police officer said that the blaze erupted last evening after a gas cylinder in one of the shops got exploded due to leak and within no time it engulfed nearby shops. Though the fire tenders rushed to the spot but it was only after hectic efforts they managed to douse the fire after hours.
“Around 13 shops in which goods worth crores were stored got gutted,” the officer said and rejected the rumors that unidentified persons set ablaze these shops for not adhering to shutdown call of separatists.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that fire broke out in a saw-mill belonging to Mohammad Ramzan Matta at Aloosa in Bandipora district, resulting in damage to the structure. Fire tenders brought fire under control.
In another incident, fire broke out in the residential house of Abdul Rehman Mir, a resident of Kasum Bagh Hakbara village of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, resulting in damage to the structure. Fire was brought under control by fire tenders.
The police spokesman said the fire broke out in the shop of Mohammad Akbar Dar at Rather Mohalla in Kaloosa area of Bandipora district, resulting in damage to the shop. Fire was brought under control by fire tenders, he said, adding that no loss of life was reported in these incidents.
