LUCKNOW, May 11:
Election Commission faces a big challenge in the sixth and last phase of election in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow where 13 out of 18 constituencies in 14 districts going to polls has been already declared as sensitive and ‘red alert’. These 13 constituencies have hardened criminals turned politicians contesting elections this time, though UP Government has taken special security measures to ensure peaceful elections in this phase.
EC made arrangements for deploying 1.43 lakh police personnel besides 90 companies of PAC and over 350 companies of Central forces.
The state police has engaged 4748 sub-inspectors, 7857 head constables, 58802 constables and 71,000 home guards. The Red alert constituencies is led by VVIP seat Varanasi from where BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi is the candidate. There are highest 6 criminals contesting the elections with the Congress nominee Ajay Rai and SP’s Kailash Chaurasia,have been named in several serious crimes.
Azamgarh seat has 5 criminals from where Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting. BJP candidate and sitting member Ramakant Yadav is also facing serious criminal charges against him.
Ghazipur,Maharajganj and Jaunpur seats too have 5 criminal background candidates each. D P Yadav(Ghazipur), Dhananjay Singh and Parasnath Yadav( Both Jaunpur) have serious criminal charges against them.
Four each criminals are in the fray from Robertsganj, Ghosi, Salempur,Gorakhpur and Chandauli. Mafia don Mukhtar Ansari(Ghosi) has more than 14 serious criminal cases against him. Yesterday, Mukhtar was given parole for a day to campaign ,but he could not reach Ghosi from Agra due to breakdown of his vehicle.
Kushinagar, Lalganj and Mirzapur seats have three criminals each contesting the elections.
Local district administration along with CPMF and police force also took out a flag march in these red alert constituencies. A total of 19 per cent of the 328 candidates contesting polls in this last phase of elections are of criminal antecedents. Among the criminals 54 or 17 per cent are charged with serious crimes like murders, attempt to murders, rape and kidnapping.
As per the official figures, the tightest security of 31 companies each of Central Para-Military Force (CPMF), 9 companies each of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed in Azamgarh and Jaunpur districts.
While Azamgarh will have,403 sub-inspectors (SIs), 913 Head Constables (HCs),6326 constables and 7466 home guards which has two Lok Sabha seats of Azamgarh and Lalganj. In Jaunpur, besides the Central forces and PAC, will have 506 SIs, 860HCs, 6236 Constables and 7658 Homeguards. Jaunpur district too have two OLok Sabha seats of Jaunpur and Machlishahr.
Gorakhpur too have been provided with 28 companies of CPMF, 8 companies of PAC along with 571 SIs, &^# HCs, 5466 constables and 7096 homeguards. Gorakhpur also have two constituencies of Gorakhpur and Bansgaon.
The VVIP Varanasi district has been provided with 22 companies of Central forces, 6 companies of PAC, 529 SIs, 660 HCs,3966 constables and 5804 homeguards.
Ballia district have been given 22 companies of CPMF, 6 companies of PAC, 378 SIs, 660 HCs, 4271 constables and 5422 homeguards while Deoria district has been given 25 companies of CPMF, 7 companies of PAC, 331 SIs, 577 HCs, 2702 constables and 3184 homeguards.
Ghazipur district has been given 23 companies of Central forces, 6 companies of PAC, 337 SIs, 650 HCs, 4576 constables and 5566 homeguards while Kushinagar district has been provided 22 companies of central forces,6 companies of PAC, 315 SIs,631 HCs,4179 constables and 5286 homeguards. Maharajganj district has been given 18 companies of central forces,5 companies of PAC, 219 SIs,487 HCs, 3224 constables and 3874 homeguards. Mau district has been given 13 companies of CPMF, 4 companies of PAC, 226 SIs, 354 HCs, 2642 constables and 3314 homeguards.
Sidharthnagar district on the indo-nepal border has been given 22 companies of Central forces, 2 companies of PAC, 210 SIs,324 HCs,4236 contables and 4334 homeguards. The naxalite district of Sonebhadra district has been provided with 18 companies of central forces, 4 companies of PAC, 253 SIs,275 HCs, 2781 constables and 3150 homeguards. Mirzapur district has been given 20 companies of central forces,5 companies of PAC, 240 SIs,368 HCs,3549 contables and 3934 homeguards and Chandauli district has been given 17 companies of Central forces,4 companies of PAC, 230 SIs, 335 HCs, 2702 constables and 3184 homeguards.
