Srinagar, Feb 20: Twelve more persons tested positive for swine flu at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar while 40 samples of suspected swine flu cases were sent for testing today.
Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS said here that no fresh death occurred today due to swine flu in the hospital. “250 patients were seen today at newly opened Pulmonary Medicine OPD at attendant Sarai SKIMS up to 3 pm and 40 samples were collected for testing,” he said.
The MS said that 11 patients are admitted in isolation ward, out of which only one patient is on ventilator. He said: “All required facilities are in place and 4000 N95 masks have been received today and 6000 Tamiflu tablets are expected to be received soon.”
Dr Jan said that there is no need to panic and general public is advised to take necessary precautions.
As more people tested positive, the swine flu caused panic and fear among people in Kashmir with a vast section of society accusing Health authorities of unpreparedness and ignoring warnings.
The swine flu cases have been reported for past five months but Health officials instead of taking measures to control the flu remained silent. There is only one testing laboratory at SKIMS that too has insufficient staff.
In the meantime, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that it has set up round the clock helpline numbers for public awareness in view of swine flu outbreak in Kashmir.
“People can call and get information on following phone numbers: 09697988866, 09419409866, 09086889191, 09906832097, 09796337171, 09596251400 and 094691-54840,” a statement issued by the DAK said.
