11,566 security men hurt in stone-pelting

JAMMU, Feb 6:  The Government today claimed that about 11,566 security personnel were injured in 4,736 stone-pelting incidents in the Kashmir valley during the last three years.
A total 110 civilians and two policemen also lost their lives during these incidents, it added.
In a written reply to a question by Congress Legislator Naresh Kumar Gupta in the Upper House today, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that as many as 9,670 police personnel and 1,896 security forces personnel were injured in 4,736 incidents of stone-pelting during 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The year 2016 saw 9,235 personnel getting injured in stone-pelting, the highest figure for these three years. There were 1,198 such incidents in 2017 and 1,690 security personnel were injured.
In 2015, 641 security personnel were injured in 730 incidents in 2015, the Chief Minister said.
As many as 110 civilians and 2 policemen were killed during these incidents in 2015, 2016 and 2017, she added.
