SRINAGAR, Dec 29: For the first time more than 11,000 students are appearing in the UGC- NET exams in 40 subjects across Kashmir valley on Sunday (December 30).
This year 11,350 students are appearing in the national level examination while as last year 6,000 had appeared in the UGC-NET examination. The huge presence of students this year is due to the objective nature of question papers set up by UGC. The decision was taken so that more students pass the qualifying examination for lecturership.
“Education subject is the main attraction of the students as 1700 students have opted for this subject the highest among all other 40 subjects,” a Kashmir University official said, adding that in June this year 400 students qualified the UGC-NET exams which happened to be around 150 earlier.
If any student qualify the exams in the top merit he/she is eligible for JRF NET (junior research fellowship). If the students are willing to go for JRF then they are entitled to a monthly salary of Rs. 18,000 continuously for the next 5 years till they complete their fellowship.
