113 from J&K including 102 Kashmiri students being quarantined

17 samples test negative for Coronavirus, 2 awaited

Srinagar, Feb 14: One hundred and thirteen people including 102 students from Kashmir with China travel history including those who were evacuated from Wuhan province by Government of India on February 1 are being quarantined.
In Jammu 10 people who had travel history from China and Thailand are being quarantined. One of the students from RS Pura in Jammu who is studying in Government Medical College Amritsar arrived from Malaysia but had travel history of Thailand and Singapore. He had symptoms of fever and respiratory infection and his sample was taken but report is awaited. He is being quarantined in Amritsar and J&K Government’s Health Departm-ent is in touch with Punjab Health Department over his health condition.
Thirty seven students arrived in Kashmir from China during last one week taking the total number of students arriving from Coronavirus hit country to 68. One student from Pinglana, Pulwama arrived in Srinagar from Chingjong province of China two days ago. He arrived at Srinagar airport from Kolkata and had mild fever with respiratory infection. He was taken to SKIMS Soura where he is being treated in an isolated ward and doctors said he is recovering. He sample has been taken and sent to AIIMS New Delhi. Another student who is also admitted in the same ward has tested negative for Coronavirus. He may be discharged from the hospital soon.
The rest of the 35 students are being quarantined in their homes and medical teams of the Health Department are visiting them daily to check their health status. So far samples of 18 quarantined people have been taken with 10 from Jammu and 8 from Srinagar. All of them have tested negative and report of Pulwama student who is admitted in SKIMS is awaited.
And 34 Kashmiri students who were evacuated from Wuhan province of China on February 1 are being quarantined at a medical facility in New Delhi that has been set up by Ministry of Health Services Government of India. It may be mentioned here that the GoI evacuated 324 Indian nationals including 211 students with 34 from Kashmir on February 1 from Wuhan, the epicenter of Coronavirus.
Financial Commissioner Health Atul Dullo has held video conferencing with Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudhan 5 times in last 10 days to discuss the measures being taken to deal with the coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir. He is also holding meetings with the medical staff across all the districts of J&K on daily basis to check the preparedness to deal with any emergency.
“We are keeping vigil at the people who arrive in J&K from China and South East Asia. We have buffer stock of medical and protective equipment including PPEs, triple lawyer masks and N95 masks available across J&K”, he said.
The Nodal Officer for J&K UT to deal with the Coronavirus, Dr Shafqat Khan, told Excelsior that they have trained 300 medical staff during last three weeks for dealing with the Coronavirus. He said that today they trained airport medical staff, staff of PHC Chhanapora in Srinagar and Ompora in Budgam district. “They have been trained in sample taking, dealing with Coronavirus patients, keeping them in isolation and transporting them and training them in wearing Personal Protective Equipment”, he added.
The global death toll has risen to 1, 383 with 64, 000 infected due to Coronavirus officially known as Covid-19. The good news is that more than 6,723 patients in China have recovered and been discharged since the outbreak began.
