Speaking to reporters before entering the examination hall, a student, Mehvish, said she was both nervous and determined to perform well.
“I’m not excited-no one really is about exams. I’m nervous, but I’ll give my 100 per cent and make full use of the relaxation in the syllabus,” she said.
Another student, Bisma, shared similar sentiments. “I’ve done my preparation; now it depends on the question paper. There has been a reduction in the syllabus, and I feel fully prepared. That gives us better chances to do well,” she said.
As per officials, around 95,000 students appeared in the Class 10 annual exams across 994 examination centres established to ensure smooth and orderly conduct of the examinations.
Of the total candidates, 68,804 are from the ten districts of Kashmir Division, while 25,224 belong to the winter zone areas of Jammu Division. In addition, 660 students from Kargil and 95 from Leh were also set to write the exams.
A parent accompanying his son to the centre expressed optimism. “The kids are ready, and we hope they perform well. It’s as much an exam for parents as it is for students. I’m sure they’ll do good,” he said.
The first paper was Mathematics, which concluded at 2 p.m. Students later said the paper was “on expected lines” and “easy.”
Another, Waseem, added, “It was a standard paper, good for those who had prepared well. I did well-we all worked hard for this.”
The 15% syllabus relaxation for Classes 10, 11, and 12 has been extended this year to offset disruptions caused by recent torrential rains, cloudbursts, and floods, allowing students’ 85% attempt to be considered equivalent to 100%.
Meanwhile, in view of the upcoming Assembly bye-elections and to avoid scheduling papers on Fridays, the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) today issued a revised datesheet for the ongoing Class 10 Annual Regular 2025 examinations.
Officials said the revision became necessary due to Assembly by-polls in Budgam and Nagrota constituencies scheduled on November 11.
As per the revised datesheet, Vocational Subjects will now be held on November 6, followed by Science on November 13.
The Urdu/Hindi paper will be held on November 17, while Computer Science will take place on November 19.
The English exam has been rescheduled for November 20, and Home Science will now be conducted on November 23.
The examinations will conclude on November 27 with Painting, Art, and Drawing papers.

The JKBOSE has urged students to prepare as per the revised schedule and directed Chief Education Officers, Heads of Institutions, and invigilation staff to ensure that all candidates are informed about the new dates through every available means of communication.
