1,048 perform darshan

JAMMU, Aug 1: On 31st day of Swami Amarnath Yatra 1,048 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave in South Kashmir district of Anantnag today.
With this the total number of pilgrims paying obeisance in cave shrine since the 48 day long yatra started on July 2 touched 2,15,015.
According to an official spokesman 50 pilgrims left via traditional Chandanwari track for holy cave today. Out of them 23 left from Nunwan base Camp while rest from Pahalgam.
He said besides nine pilgrims left from Pahalgam to holy cave via chopper while 21 returned through chopper to Pahalgam after performing darshan at holy cave.
The spokesman said 419 pilgrims are stranded at Nunwan Base camp as they could not return to Jammu during last three days due to night long protests by mob at Yaner Ashmuqam on Anantnag -Pahalgam road. However they may be evacuated to Jammu to-night, spokesman added.
He said 345 pilgrims left for holy cave from shortest Baltal track today while 137 reached from Jammu to Baltal Base Camp early this morning.
The spokesman said the weather was partially cloudy on both the yatra tracks as well as at holy cave.
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 264 pilgrims today left for holy cave from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas here under tight security arrangements in eight vehicles. These pilgrims will leave for holy cave via Baltal track and not by Pahalgam Chandanwari track due to mob violence at various places in Anantnag district.
