Srinagar, Mar 2: 10+2 contractual lecturers today demanded that a secure job policy must be formulated by the Government in order to save their career even after working in the Higher Education Department for years now.
Scores of such lecturers assembled in the Press Enclave and accused the Government of playing with their career by not engaging them in the services by putting out a policy for them.
“The Government has forced us to come out on streets because we have been asking them to formulate a secure job policy for us, but nothing has been done in this regard,” said Arjumand Mohiudin.
The Government had constituted a committee which in the recommendation suggested that these teachers should be given the age relaxation with additional weightage of marks for the relevant experience.

The recommendations have been termed as mere ‘lollipop’ by the protesting lecturers. “The administration has only ruined our lives; we are highly qualified people and have finally plunged into depression in the absence of jobs,” they said.
It is pertinent to mention here that these lecturers were disengaged by the Government and since then neither have they been engaged nor any policy has been chalked out to secure their careers.
The lecturers said they have got their families to look after and in the absence of any job, it is getting difficult for them to sustain their lives.
“There is a total dearth of teachers in the colleges and schools, why can’t the Government hire us when we have spent 10-15 years in the teaching the children; why are we being meted with step motherly treatment,” they said.
While putting forth the demands, the lecturers said that the Government must, immediately, re-engage them and should also bring in a secure job policy for them. “We have qualified the screening on the directorate level and we should be adjusted under any existing SRO”, they said.
They said while the Government has absorbed 42000 ReTs, “what is preventing them to come to the rescue of 1700 lecturers have in their kitty gold medals, NET etc,” they said.
