JAMMU, Nov 8: The district administration in Kargil today accommodated nearly 1000 passengers stranded in Kargil due to closure of Kargil-Srinagar road at Zojila Pass, at Government buildings and arranged food and woolen items for them.
Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Vikas Kundal met the stranded passengers and opened all major Government buildings for their stay including Government Higher Secondary Schools for Girls and Boys, Stadium, Government halls, Tourist Facilitation Centre and other buildings.
The administration also arranged food and woolen items for the stranded people in Kargil besides other basic necessities.
Sources said nearly 1000 people including women and children from various parts, who were heading for Srinagar and Jammu from Leh were stranded at Kargil due to closure of Kargil-Srinagar road at Zojila Pass in view of heavy snowfall. The road is closed for the last four days.
Efforts were on to clear the National Highway.
Authorities have assured all possible facilities to the stranded passengers.
