JAMMU, Mar 15: At least ten houses including a three storey building were fully damaged in Poonch, Rajouri and Mahore area of Reasi while two dozen houses partially in these districts whereas, at least 26 electric transformers of the PDD went out of order due to heavy rains during last three days. Most of the roads including National Highway, have also been restored.
Official sources from Poonch said that due to massive rain last evening, a three storey building of one Mohd Iqbal, son of Mohd Hussain at village Malikan in Mandi collapsed. It was raining heavily and the family had already vacated the house due to partial damage to it two days back. It was heavy rain last evening and the entire building collapsed.
Five more houses were fully damaged at village Arai in Mandi tehsil of Poonch last evening. No loss of human life has been reported in these incidents. The damaged houses belonged to Bhag Hussain and brother Mohd Akbar, sons of Raj Wali; Saifuddin, son of Abdul Aziz, Bader Din, son of Abdul Rahim and Mohd Sadiq, son of Faqar Din- all residents of Arai. Most of these houses were Kucha. At least a dozen houses have been partially damaged in this area. Tehsildar and police team from Mandi visited the affected area and also provided some immediate relief to the victims, an official spokesman said.
Reports from Rajouri said that two houses were fully damaged and at least half a dozen partially in Thannamandi and Kotranka area due to heavy rains. The house of one Shamshad Ahmed, son of Mohd Maqbool, resident of Upper Shahdara near Thannamandi and Mohd Shafi, son of Abdul Rehman of Ward No. 6 Thannmandi were fully damaged due to heavy rain on Monday. Three cattle shed were also damaged in the district in Kotranka and Thannamandi.
As reported by SDM Mahore in district Reasi, Subhash Dogra two houses were fully damaged and at least half a dozen partially in Mahore Sub Division. He disclosed that houses of Mohd Iqbal, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin, resident of Sugga in Chasana and Manzoor Ahmed, son of Gh Qadir, resident of Shuksar ( Chasana) were reported to have been fully damaged. Besides this, at least half a dozen houses have been damaged in Chasana, Chhajru, Bagga and Gulabgarh area. Further reports are being received from the concerned Naib Tehsildars. No loss of human life has been reported.
Chief Engineer, PDD (M&RE) Ashwani Gupta said that at least 26 power transformers are reported to have been damaged due to rains during last three days. He said that power supply which was also snapped in many areas has been restored to majority of the areas by this evening, while the restoration work in some rural areas was still in progress. He claimed in Jammu city most of the damaged transformers have been replaced.
