Zojila tunnel

Our country is capable of making great achievements provided we have at least three to four more decades of peace. We have great and magnificent developmental projects on cards. We are capable of raising funds for their implementation and we have the technical and skilled manpower. All that we need is a long era of peace and tranquility and a dedicated Government at the helm of affairs. In particular, the Union Ministry of Roads and Surface Transport has been both a visionary and a frugal donor for extending the road network in our State. Zojila tunnel, to be built in above 11,000 feet sea level mountain at a cost of Rs 4899 crores and in a period of seven years will bring about total geographical, economic and social change in the entire region of Ladakh. For more than six months in year this vast area remains cut off from the rest of the country owing to snow. With the opening of the tunnel, Ladakh region will remain connected to the rest of the country round the year. It will enhance trade and impact social life besides raising the level of life style. Above all the most important aspect of this connectivity that our forces guarding the border with China and Pakistan will receive a shot in the arms by establishing uninterrupted line of communication for supply of arms, ammunition and the war machine. Central Government has also ordered survey of railway line from Manali to Leh. This will make access to Leh and our farthest point in northern Ladakh very easy and uninterrupted. We congratulate the two Union Ministries namely the Roads and Surface Transport Ministry and the Railways Ministry for envisaging these important projects. The Zojila tunnel foundation will be laid by the Prime Minister sometimes after 15th of August 2017.
