This has reference to the news item ‘PM to lay Zojila tunnel foundation after Aug 15’ DE Aug 7.
The much touted Zojila tunnel has remained in news for a long time now. There is much delay in execution of the project for one reason or the other. This strategic project can not afford further delays. Rather it should be executed at a war footing basis keeping in view the developing situation on Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Besides, the people of Ladakh division have been pleading for its execution since long. Zojila is the lifeline of people living in this part of the world. Once this gets closed during November- December months, the life comes to a stand still here. No development work, no to and fro movement of vehicles, no tourists, almost every activity freezes here.
This is the reason why this region still lags behind in every development activity. Once the tunnel comes into existence, one expect all round development of the region. It will give a new dimension to socio-economic scenario of the region. The Government must ensure that there are no more delays in execution of this project.
