JAMMU, May 2: Senior BJP leader, Yudhvir Sethi along with representatives of Old City Business Associations today called on Inspector General of Police, Traffic J.P. Singh.
A joint memorandum about traffic issues of city was submitted to him by Mr Sethi.
DIG Ashkoor A Wani, SP Mohan Lal and other officers of traffic police were present on the occasion.
President, Raj Tilak Road Traders Association Ramesh Mahajan, president, Shalimar Road Traders Association Pardeep Sharma, President, Jain Bazaar Traders Association Arun Sethi, Pacca Danga Traders Association Harish Gupta and general secretary Old Hospital Road Joginder Mahajan were part of the delegation who presented the memorandum.
Detailing the problems faced by people due to traffic congestion, Yudhvir said being hub of business activities the Old City area is vulnerable to traffic jamming and systematic traffic management is need of the hour.
He said better traffic management can not only ease life of the local residents but can also help in avoiding road side accidents.
“Every now and then we hear people falling prey to unmanaged traffic and for permanent resolution of the issue Traffic Department has to jointly work with civil society,” he added.
The deputation put forth suggestions for easing traffic problem in the Old City area. The suggestions include, controlled four wheeler movement in the area, mechanism for speed restrictions near schools and temples, augmenting traffic management mechanism and special traffic squads for most vulnerable points of Jain Bazaar Lane, Kachalu Wali Gali Kachi Chowni, Parade to Purani Mandi lane, Mahalakshmi Mandir to Chowk Chabutra lane, Shalamar to City Chowk lane Chowk Chabutra to Jain bazaar and Link road.
