JAMMU, Sept 7: Yudhvir Sethi, J&K BJP vice president today demanded immediate repair of Chak Dam constructed in Aithem Village in Nagrota Block and also the road leading to Baba Bhaid Devta as the same got washed away in recent flash floods.
The senior BJP leader led a delegation of local representatives and met Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department to take up the matter on war footing.
Sarpanch Aithem Sobha Rani and Sham Singh Naib Sarpanch accompanied the J&K BJP vice president and apprised the CE I&FC of the problems being faced by the people of Aithem, Block Nagrota district Jammu.
The delegation comprising inhabitants of Villages Aithem, Largon, Baba Bhaid, Japta Pangal, etc apprised the Chief Engineer about the burning problems. Sarpanch Sobha Rani said that the Government had made a Chak Dam to cater to the water needs of the people of the area including the devotees of Baba Bhaid Devsthan, which is thronged by hundreds of people throughout the year for paying obeisance. She said that the then DC and Tehsildar promised to construct a road for local residents but till date the promise has not been fulfilled. She said that the Chak Dam has been damaged and the crates placed by the Government have also been washed away and the villages are facing acute dearth of water.
The delegation also apprised the CE I&FC that one of the four villages-Largon (Baba Bhaid) is reeling under water shortage as the water supply has been affected for over last five months and the pilgrims visiting the Devsthan are also reeling under grave difficulty due to shortage of potable water.
The delegation alleged that devotees have to buy packed water at exorbitant rates due to absence water supply, which is unwarranted.
After listening to the demands raised by the delegation, the Chief Engineer I&FC assured to take up the matter with the concerned quarters and early start of the work. He also assured to restore the water supply to Baba Bhaid at the earliest.
