YRS pledges to fight for rights of Rajput community

KATHUA, Feb 2: A meeting of Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) was held here today under the chairmanship of its State president, Surinder Singh Gilli, wherein members of Rajput community from various tehsils and blocks of the district participated, and pledged to strengthen the community and fight for its rights.
The meeting was also attended by State committee and executive members.
Speaking on the occasion, Surinder Singh said that Rajput community in the State lags behind in every sphere of life due to the step motherly attitude of State Government, adding that the rural and agricultural class in particular was the worst victim.
He called upon the community members to get united for a decisive battle to attain their just rights. He demanded special educational institutes and professional degree colleges for the Rajput Community in the State. He also asserted that Rajput hostels be opened in the State for the students coming from far flung and rural areas of the State.
The meeting also demanded renaming of University of Jammu as Maharaja Hari Singh University, Jammu. Besides, the association also demanded to declare September 23 as Gazetted holiday as a mark of respect and honour for Maharaja Hari Singh. The participants also reiterated their demand for establishment of Rajput Welfare Board.
It was also resolved during the meeting that within few days the district committee for Kathua will be framed for the smooth functioning of the Sabha and for the better coordination between State body and district body.
