Youth’s body recovered, family alleges murder

RAJOURI, May 16: The family members and relatives held protest after the body of a 23-year-old youth was recovered from Rather, in Draj area of Kotranka in Rajouri district on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Zaheen Shah (23), son of Azam Shah, a resident of Draj, Budhal.
According to initial reports, some passersby spotted the body lying in the area and immediately alerted the authorities. A police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Budhal, Inspector Parveen Kumar, rushed to the spot and took the body into custody for medico-legal formalities.
Local sources informed that Zaheen Shah had left his home on Wednesday night and did not return, causing concern among family members. The sudden discovery of his body has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Zaheen was reportedly the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes his mother, wife, and a two-year-old daughter. His untimely death has brought immense grief to the household and sparked outrage among residents of the area.
Aggrieved family members, supported by locals, staged a protest demanding justice and alleging that the youth had been brutally murdered.
Tehsildar Koteranka Sahil Ali Shah, accompanied by SHO Budhal Inspector Parveen Kumar, reached the spot and assured the family and protestors that a thorough investigation would be carried out and justice would be served.
Following the assurance from the administration, the protest was called off, and the police have initiated an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death.
