Youth shot dead by his friend

KATHUA, Oct 29: A youth was shot dead by his friend from point blank range with single barrel rifle in Shiv Nagar area here today for demanding money from him which he had borrowed some time back.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Sharma, son of Vijay Sharma resident of Shiva Nagar, Kathua. He was murdered by his friend who has been identified as Banu Partap Singh, son of Surat Singh resident of Ward No. 20, Patel Nagar Kathua.

Police said the deceased Sanjeev reached accused Banu’s house asking him to return the money borrowed by him some time back. While demanding the money some altercation took place between the two and as Sanjeev Sharma came out of Banu’s house the accused followed him with a single barrel gun in his hand and fired one shot on his chest from point blank range in the street in front his house. Sanjeev fell down in a pool of blood after getting seriously injured.
He was shifted to hospital but doctors declared him as brought dead. The police arrested the accused Banu Partap Singh and seized the Rifle from his residence. Later his father Surat Singh was also arrested by the police as the Rifle licensed was issued on his name, SSP Kathua Shailendra Misra told media persons later.
He said Kathua police has collected the evidence from crime scene as team of Forensic Wing of the police reached the spot. The neighbours of accused were also questioned by the police and it also started thorough investigation in the matter.
SHO Kathua, Arvind Sambyal has been appointed as Investigation Officer.  The body was kept in mortuary for COVID test and postmortem. The police is collecting evidences about the case, besides, seizing the weapon of offense. The police is also working to find out the root cause of the murder and reason behind money collection.
It said that so far it is not ascertained how much money was involved and what was the reason of paying the money by slain youth to assailant.
