Youth lynched to death

KATRA, Dec 13: In a bizarre incident, a youth was lynched to death while his friend was also critically assaulted by relatives of a girl, to whom the duo had gone to meet.
The incident took place during the intervening night of Dec 12-13 in village Bhagta, near Katra and Police has detained the girl’s uncle and two other relatives while one of the main accused was still at large, said SSP Reasi, Sujit Kumar.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Kumar, son of Phalwan Dass, resident of Ward number 17, Amwada Road, Udhampur.  The injured, namely Abhishek Kapoor, son of Prithviraj Kapoor, resident of Amwada Morh, Ward number 17, Udhampur, has been admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
According to Police, both Rahul and Abhishek had gone to meet the girl, whose parents had gone to Reasi. However, both the boys were spotted by some relatives of the girl, who beat them up mercilessly till Police reached the spot on getting information about the incident.
The critically injured youth was rushed to CHC Katra where doctors referred both of them to GMC Hospital Jammu in view of their serious condition. Rahul Kumar succumbed to his injuries on way to Jammu while condition of Abhishek was stated to be stable till the last reports came in.
Police has registered a case in this connection at Katra Police Station,  under Sections 307/342/34 RPC and arrested Pawan Singh, son of Gori Singh, Vikram Singh, son of Krishan Singh and Kaka Ram, son of Ramdass, all residents of Bhagta.
These accused, along with some other locals, mercilessly beat up both the boys resulting into death of one of them, who was hit by a wooden log on his head.  One of the main accused, identified as Sukhdev Singh, alias Sonu, son of Kesri Singh of Bhagta, was still at large.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl, namely Deepali, daughter of Uttam Singh, and injured Abhishek, were knowing each other for quite some time. At the time of incident, Uttam Singh along with his wife, was not present in the house and had gone to Cambeldanga, Police said and added that Deepali has also sustained some injuries as she was too beaten up by her relatives.
Police is also questioning the girl to ascertain facts about the incident, sources said. Grandfather of the girl, her uncle and two cousins were also detained by Police for questioning in the case, Police said.
