Youth killed, five injured in ‘firing’ by SF in south Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A youth was killed and five others were injured when security forces allegedly  opened fire to disperse demonstrators in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Saturday, official sources said.

They said people had gathered at Ganawpora on the fourth day fateha ceremony of Firdous Ahmad alias  Umar Bhai who was killed in an encounter along with another Hizbul Mujahideen militant at Chaigund  Shopian on January 24. However, youths hit the streets raising separatist slogans and clashed with the security  forces at Ganowpora.

Sources said security forces opened fire to disperse the demonstrators who were pelting stones. Six people  were injured, four of them with bullet wounds, they said.

The injured were rushed to hospital where one of the injured Javid Ahmad Bhat, resident of Balpora,  with a head injury succumbed.

Internet mobile service is already snapped in Shopian and Pulwama since January 24.

Two HM militants were killed in an encounter with security forces on January 24. A youth Shakir was  killed and two girls were injured when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators near the  site of encounter.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed condolence and concern over the killing of a youth. (AGENCIES)
