JAMMU : Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary today called upon the students to become agents of change in the society and create awareness among the people about the benefits of keeping the environment neat and clean.
The Minister said this after witnessing an impressive skit on ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ (SBA) performed by students of New Janta High School, Biaspur during annual day celebration of their school.
While addressing the gathering, the Minister said that there is a need to come forward and join hands in making India clean. The mission of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ can only be achieved with the active participation of all citizens of the country, he stressed.
He further called upon the students to supplement government’s efforts of educating the people about eradicating open defecation and follow healthy sanitation practices. He asked them to refrain from throwing garbage on the streets, water bodies and public spaces, besides planting as many trees as they can.
Highlighting the vital role of teachers in the society, the Minister said the teachers should become role models for the students by showing them a right path for good of the community.
He further asked the school administration to hold debates, seminars, declamation contests, painting competitions, symposiums and other co-curricular activities on regular intervals so that the students not only gain bookish knowledge but also know about the current happenings across the globe.
The state government is taking one step after the other for improving the quality of education in the State, the Minster said, adding that special emphasis is being laid on educating the girl child.
Later, the Minster also convened a public grievance redressal camp at Suchetgarh wherein the people hailing from Badyal Brahmana, Pindi Sarochan, Khepad, Rangpur, Dablehar, Flora, Agrachak and other adjoining villages participated.
During the camp, the villagers projected various demands related to power supply, water supply, road connectivity, healthcare, education, telecom and sanitation.
The Minister assured them that all their demands would be redressed in a time-bound manner and sought cooperation from the people in ensuring speedy development of their areas.
