JAMMU, July 15: A youth who had gone for a swim with some of his friends allegedly died today after drowning in Ranbir Canal in Batehra area of city outskirts.
“The body of the deceased namely Deepak (23) son of Ashok Kumar, a resident of Jourian, could not be located till late evening, when the search operation was suspended due to darkness”, a spokesman said.
He said that the friends had come for a swim in the canal in the afternoon. While swimming, the other friends realized that Deepak was missing. One of them alerted everyone. They searched for him, but couldn’t find him. They then informed the police, who launched a search operation but the body of the drowned youth could not be located.
“The drowned youth was an employee of a motor vehicle workshop at Batehra”, the spokesman said, adding, Kanachak police had taken cognizance of the matter.
