KATHUA, Aug 16: A youth drowned while taking a bath in Ravi canal this morning.
He has been identified as Umer Din, 20, son of Khalil Ahmed. He was working in a factory in Kathua.
Police said this morning he went to take a bath in Ravi canal but the level of water was very high and he slipped in the canal and drifted in the strong current of water.
People informed Lakhanpur Police Station and a police team started search operations.
Later his body was fished out 300 meters downstream of the canal by police.
The dead body was kept in mortuary in District Hospital Kathua. It will be handed over to family members for last rites tomorrow after autopsy. Lakhanpur police has registered a case under relevant sections of the law in this regard.
