SRINAGAR, July 24: Two persons including a cop today succumbed to injuries in SKIMS hospital here taking the death toll in the violence in the aftermath of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani to 47 while over 5500 persons including security men were injured.
Sameer Ahamd Wani, 25, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani of Khonmoh Srinagar today succumbed to his injuries in SKIMS hospital here.
Wani was hit by a bullet in abdomen near Pampore on July 10. He was being treated at SKIMS Srinagar since then and was declared dead by the doctors this morning.
A cop, Mudasir Ahmad belt no. 619/ KGM, who was injured critically in a blast at Yaripora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on July 15, succumbed to injuries this morning at SKIMS here.
A police spokesman said that constable Mudasir Ahmad, who was injured in a law and order/militancy incident at Yaripora, Kulgam on July 15 succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS today.
Meanwhile, the curfew, shutdown and protests amid mobile phone and internet blockade continued across the Valley on 10th day today and situation remained mostly peaceful with few incidents of stone pelting.
The curfew was lifted today from parts of Kashmir, mostly north Kashmir while police, CRPF and Army was heavily deployed in these areas to prevent any violence.
A police spokesman said that the situation throughout the Kashmir valley remained peaceful and under control today.
“There were no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere in the Valley although some stray stone pelting incidents were reported from isolated places”, the spokesman said.
He said: “There was no curfew in most of the towns/areas of Kashmir valley although curfew remained imposed in eight Police Stations of Srinagar and towns of Awantipora, Kulgam and Anantnag.”
In the meantime, separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik in a joint Statement today, extended the strike call till Friday.
The statement said that on Monday, July 25, there would be march to Anantnag, on Tuesday, July 26, complete shutdown would be observed till 2 pm after which there will be a relaxation so that people are able to purchase essential commodities and in the evening between 8 pm and 9 pm complete blackout will be observed. “On Wednesday, July 27, they have called for Kulgam march. On Thursday July 28, a complete shutdown and peaceful protests and in the evening between 8 pm and 9 pm complete blackout will be observed .On Friday July 29, people have been asked to observe shut down and march towards Jamia Masjid Srinagar”, the statement added.
Meanwhile, non-local labourers continued to leave Valley for their States in view of prolonged unrest.
