JAMMU, June 16: Pradesh Youth Congress today staged protest against the Jammu Municipal Corporation for forcibly demolishing shops at Kacchi Chawani Road violating the lockdown restrictions imposed by the District Administration.
Youth Congress activists condemned the local administration for not allowing Uday Bhanu Chib, JKPYC president to move out from his residence to lead the protest programme and put him under house arrest till evening. The police even did not allow PYC leaders and activists to move towards JMC.
Later, led by Ajaz Choudhary, vice president J&K Youth Congress, the activists assembled outside the Congress headquarters Jammu near Shahidi Chowk and raised slogans against the Jammu Municipal Corporation. While condemning the house arrest of Uday Bhanu, Choudhary said that he (Uday) was supposed to expose the nexus and corruption in the Jammu Municipal Corporation while carrying out the demolition drives in Jammu city.
Choudhary said that the JMC has been harassing the innocent people of Jammu city and carrying out demolition drive in the midnight violating the lockdown norms. He said that the people of Jammu region has gave massive mandate to the BJP leaders for securing their rights but during the crisis not a single leader came out to help the needy. He said that the people of Jammu region feel cheated and give a befitting reply to J&K BJP leadership.
He alleged that was rampant corruption in the Corporation, and enforcement wing staff had been providing “safe passage” to violators by recommending them to approach the courts after allowing them to raise illegal structures. PYC leader asked the Mayor JMC, CM Gupta to clarify on what pretext the demolition drive was conducted at midnight. Who forced JMC officials to carry-out demolition drive at midnight when the whole world are facing crisis due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
Among others who joined the protest included Ricky Dalotra , Sahil Singh Langeh, Latish Sharma, Ashwani Singh, Neeraj Choudhary, Anirudh Sawhney, Goutam, Karun and Sunny Parihar.
