JAMMU, July 31: A young woman today became latest victim to COVID-19 in Jammu taking death toll in Jammu district to 19 and that of region to 28 while 145 more persons tested positive for the virus including an officer in the rank of Additional SP in Rajouri, five members of a family and nine CRPF personnel at Udhampur, 16 CRPF men, three of a family and one pregnant woman in Reasi district, nine BSF jawans, three SDRF men and one employee each of PDD and MES in Samba and three police constables in Poonch district who were on a naka duty.
A 32-year-old woman from Sheikh Nagar locality in Bagh-e-Bahu area of Jammu died yesterday afternoon after undergoing test for COVID-19 at the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua where she had gone to meet her mother, who tested positive for the virus.
The woman had returned to the house of her in-laws at Sheikh Nagar after undergoing test and died at 2 pm yesterday after which the body was shifted to the GMC Jammu and was tested for COVID-19. She tested positive this afternoon, GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said.
Police parties led by SHO Bagh-e-Bahu Inspector Kirti Sharma have contained house of the woman and her family members and other contacts will be sampled tomorrow. Cremation of the woman will also take place tomorrow as per the COVID protocol.
With this death, Jammu region’s death toll due to Coronavirus today went up to 28 and that of Jammu district to 19. Rajouri and Doda districts have recorded two deaths each while Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, Samba and Poonch have one death each.
Weekend lockdown began this evening for second time in Jammu, Udhampur and Rajouri districts and first time in Kathua district and will continue till 6 am Monday. In Samba districts, four tehsils of Samba, Ghagwal, Bari Brahamna and Vijaypur were also shut till August 4.
The UT Government today extended Unlock 2 restrictions across Jammu and Kashmir issued on July 7 till August 5 when Unlock 3 guidelines are expected to be released for the Union Territory.
Forty three persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu district including 26 locals with no travel history and 17 travelers.
Positives of Jammu district include 27-year-old girl from New Plot, 23-year-old girl from Preet Nagar, 47-year-old man from Roop Nagar, an elderly woman from Shastri Nagar, a senior citizen from Shakti Nagar, youth from Bantalab, middle aged men from Sanjay Nagar and Bhagwati Nagar, three elderly citizens from Toph Sherkhanian, 34-year-old from Bishnah, teen-ager from Kunjwani, two youths from Faisalabad and Belicharana, middle-aged man from Chinore, elderly person from Raipur Satwari, youth from Bohri, 65-year-old from Resham Ghar, 35-year-old from Roop Nagar, 42-year-old woman from Arnia, 30-year-old youth from Talab Tillo, youth and 63-year-old from Bakshi Nagar, 55-year-old man from Trikuta Nagar, 30-year-old from Bahu Fort, 51-year-old from Channi, 48-year-old woman from Bakshi Nagar, 28-year-old youth from Krishna Nagar, 29-year-old from Khour, 44-year-old from Trikuta Nagar and teenager from Shakti Nagar.
A number of security persons also tested positive in Jammu district.
Udhampur and Reasi districts also witnessed spurt in Corona cases today with 24 and 20 cases respectively.
“Out of 24 positives in Udhampur district, nine were CRPF personnel, two police constables and five members of a family from Jib,’’ District Magistrate Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla said.
Other positives of Udhampur hailed from Majalata, Bharat Nagar, Lambi Gali and Kalta.
With a total of four cases reported from Bharat Nagar, the locality has been declared as Red Zone.
Out of 20 Corona positive cases in Reasi district, 15 were CRPF personnel under quarantine at 6th battalion Dhirti Panthal in Katra who had returned from leave and another CRPF jawan from Thuroo Dharmari with travel history of Kishtwar.
Three persons of a family including 40-year-old man, his three-year-old son and 39-year-old sister from Thapa Chowk Reasi also tested positive today. They had come in contact with a positive member of the family.
A pregnant woman from Bagga Gundi in Mahore has also reported positive.
An officer in the rank of Additional SP was among 24 persons who reported positive for the virus in Rajouri district today.
Other positives of Rajouri were four from Nowshera, three from Budhal, two from Patrara, a police personnel from District Police Lines, BSF jawan from Dhangri and one each from Khandli, Ward No. 8, Ward No. 9, Fatehpur, Sunderbani and Kala.
Five positive persons were travelers.
Eighteen persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in Samba district, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said.
Of 18 positives, 10 were BSF jawans deployed at Panthee Samba who had returned from their houses after availing leave. They belonged to Rajasthan, Haryana, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura and Madhya Pradesh.
Three SDRF personnel hailing from SDRF Samba and residents of Samba, Bari Brahamana and Mansar also reported positive.
Other positives from Samba district include a Power Development Department employee from Badyal Sandoora posted at Hiranagar, an MES Office Kaluchak staffer hailing from Chak Manga and a grocery shopkeeper from Bainglar.
Eleven persons today reported Corona positive in Kathua district. They include four persons from Ward No. 14, all of whom were contacts of a positive person, Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said. Rest of the positives in Kathua district were travelers.
Three police constables, two of them hailing from Bheinch and one from Bandi Chechian, tested positive for Coronavirus in Poonch district today, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said, adding that the trio had come in contact with an already positive constable and had been deployed at Nakhan Wali Chowk naka.
One traveler each tested positive in Ramban and Kishtwar districts. Doda district today reported no Corona case.
With today’s positives, Jammu region now has 4444 Corona cases including 1913 active as 2503 patients have recovered so far while there were 28 deaths.
Seventy eight more persons were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region including 29 in Jammu district, 15 in Ramban, 13 Kathua, nine Samba, seven Udhampur, four Rajouri and one in Kishtwar district.
Meanwhile, 26 new Corona cases were today reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh including 16 in Leh district and 10 in Kargil.
With this, Ladakh’s Corona tally has reached 1378 including 595 in Leh and 783 in Kargil while active cases stood at 277—223 in Leh and 54 in Kargil.
As many as 1094 Corona patients have recovered in Ladakh while there have been seven casualties.
Of total positives in Ladakh, 31 have been admitted in COVID hospitals, 77 were in home isolation, 31 in COVID Care Centres and 133 in Facility Isolation.
