Young man’s injured hand saved from amputation at Dr KD Hospital

JAMMU, July 15: One of the hands of a 30-year-old man was saved from amputation by a team of doctors at Dr KD Multispeciality Hospital, Jammu.
The man, a carpenter by profession, got his left hand grievously injured by a wood cutting saw at his shop. Four fingers of the left hand including thumb had deep cut wounds with damage to skin, tendons, bones, and neurovascular structures. The extent of damage was so severe that he had been advised finger amputation at other hospitals.
Finally, the patient came to Dr K D Multispeciality Hospital, Marble Market and consulted Dr Rahul Gorka (Plastic, Microvascular and Cosmetic Surgeon). Dr Gorka examined the patient carefully and planned emergency reconstructive microsurgery for him. Subsequently, the patient underwent successful repair of the damaged tendons, bones and neurovascular structures of all the damaged fingers by microsurgical techniques under magnification.
The intra-operative and postoperative course of the patient was smooth and he was discharged after 2 days. In the surgery, Dr Zaid (Anaesthetist) and paramedical staff assisted Dr Rahul Gorka.
