Young artists win hearts on 3rd day of ‘Poungar’

JAMMU, May 20: On the 3rd day of the “Poungar”, a four-day Youth Music Festival, organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), young artists of the region made the evening a memorable with their scintillating performances of Classical music here at KL Saigal Hall.
Saujanya Sharma, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, was the chief guest while Prof Kailash Mehra presided over the function. Khalid Hussain, Satish Vimal and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, additional secretary, JKAACL, were also present in the presidium.
While speaking on the occasion, Soujanya Sharma complimented the performers, their teachers and particularly the parents terming them the main source of inspiration in motivating and facilitating them in the field of classical music. He also applauded the efforts of Cultural Academy for providing an opportunity to the new generation to excel in this field of music.
Prof Kailash Mehra in his address appreciated the role of the Academy and said that Music plays a great role in order to give a shape to the inner and outer personality of the child. She said that the classical music in Jammu is now in safe hands.
Earlier, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn in his welcome address said that the Academy is doing every possible effort to explore the hidden talent of youngster and also provide them a platform to showcase their skills in respective fields of Music like Classical music.
The singers who participated include KR Shantanu (Raag-Brindabani Sarang) Sunil Singh (Raag-Puria), Harbans Kaur (Raag-Bageshwari), Sunil Bharti (Raag Malkous), Roshni Kumari (Raag Malkous) and Sunandni Jamwal (Raag Sohni). Those who accompanied the singers include Chanchal Singh (Tabla), Bawa Ditta (Violin), Krishan Lal (Harmonium) and Hakam Singh (Dilruba).
Bhupinder Singh, In-charge Choreographer conducted the proceedings of the programme while vote of thanks was presented by Sanjeev Gupta.
